The Township of Uxbridge has settled a dispute with Coffee Time after the restaurant was closed due to damage during culvert construction.

The Brock Street location was closed in January 2020 after nearby culvert construction impacted the structural integrity of the building.

“In January 2020, Brennan Paving & Construction Ltd. and its subcontractors recommended that the building at 23 Brock St. W. be closed for occupancy, the township followed that recommendation,” the township said in a statement on the settlement released on Aug. 9. “Coffee Time (2015) Corp. sued the township in relation to the closure.”

While the settlement amount was not disclosed, the statement noted that the township is claiming any funds paid to Coffee Time in a separate suit against project contractors Brennan and AECOM, which operated as design engineer and contract administrator for the project.

No response was received to a request for comment on the status of that ongoing litigation.

Coffee Time is no longer a tenant of 23 Brock St. W., and the future of the building remains under consideration as the township completes a downtown revitalization project to determine the best use of the lands.
